Last week I did a review of an app that I thought was quintessential for all tablet users to have, Tablet Talk. This app allowed people to use their Android tablet to text through their phones messaging service. It was after I posted this review that some of you said that another app, Mighty Text, was superior to Tablet Talk and that I should use that instead. Not being one to turn down a challenge, I decided to give Might Text a run and I came to one final conclusion.  Those saying Mighty Text was a better app were right, mostly.

Let me first say that I love being able to text from my PC. This has freed up so much time, it’s a wonder how I lived without it and I’ve only used the app for a couple of days. Having one app connected across all devices is a dream and I’m hoping that Google “Babble” takes this and goes even further.

One of the things I like the most about Mighty Text is the look. It’s very clean and straight forward. It gives you plenty of options, like having multiple conversations at one time and even monitoring your phones battery life. Having it tie in with Google Chrome extensions really makes this app stand out from other apps.

I’m going to say this right now, I totally see why people would choose Mighty Text over Tablet Talk. For one, its free. An app like Mighty Text could have easily charged at a premium and they didn’t.  Two, the layout is a lot cleaner and there are more options available. I particularly like the “Power View” option that lets you see multiple conversation at once.

Tablet Talk is a little bit simpler, as it basically acts just like your native messaging app on your phone. It also has a nicer pop up notification for text messages and phone calls, as it allows the user to act on them without opening the app. Tablet Talk is also a more portable app since it can use Bluetooth as well as wifi. I will say that I have never used my tablet for texting outside my home, so this added Bluetooth feature does little for me. I will say though that when I use Tablet Talk the messages are sent instantly. I can’t say the same for Mighty Text. Sometimes when I send a message with Might Text, the message just hangs there. After a few minutes I end up having to delete the message and resend it. That has never happened with Tablet Talk.

But if there was one feature about Mighty Text that makes it the clear winner, it’s being able to text with my desktop. This simple extension past mobile devices has been a godsend to my productivity. Being able to carry on conversations, while multi-tasking on my PC, is a dream. The chrome extension works really well and has become one of my most used web apps.

My readers were right. Even with some of Might Texts problems, it’s still the superior app of the two. After posting this article I will be uninstalling Tablet Talk, an app that I have been using for almost a year now.
